Daily Update: Vince McMahon, UFC, Google trends - WON/F4W - WWE news, Pro Wrestling News, WWE Results, AEW News, AEW results
Dave Meltzer's Sunday news update.
DAVE MELTZER
WWE:
1.The second Vince McMahon story, as far as wrestling curiosity goes, doesn't seem to have been anywhere near as significant as the first. There was mainstream coverage, but nowhere near the level of the original story. While I hesitate to read too much into fast nationals, the rating appears it will end up the same or down from last week, which was the Friday before July 4th which is usually a below usual number. And this was with the return of Roman Reigns to television.
2.From notes from talent on Friday night, it was business as usual. Vince was there running creative. Emotions varied based on different people. Nobody can imagine Vince not being there, but the reality is that most people, including those far more powerful than Vince McMahon in their own worlds, would not survive the allegations in Friday's Wall Street Journal article. One person noted that Vince was no selling everything, "Letting everyone know he's not blinking" and said something to the effect of "Have fun guys, have a great show" after ending the production meeting.
3.The first of the next couple of months of Sunday's being WWE night on A&E starts tonight with the two-hour Undertaker bio at 8 p.m., followed by WWE Rivals wit Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels at 10 p.m. and Smack Talk with Kane at 11 p.m. They also replay the block from midnight to 4 a.m.
4.It was noted that Rhea Ripley posted a Twitter photo of herself on a heart monitor. Ripley has been out of action for what she described as dental issues and brain issues for the last five weeks.
5.Riddle & Street Profits vs. Roman Reigns & Usos was announced for 7/25 in Madison Square Garden, which is likely a dark match on the Raw tapings, but also indicates Reigns & Usos are expected to be there. Reigns has been advertised for the show along with Logan Paul and Ronda Rousey.
6.WWE in Sacramento last night drew the second largest house show crowd of the year with more than 7,000 fans (thanks to DD and Gerald Broussard):
Gunther b Ricochet to retain the IC title
Raquel Rodriguez won a three-way over Lacey Evans (as a heel) and Shayna Baszler
Happy Corbin b Drew Gulak
Viking Raiders b Jinder Mahal & Shanky
SmackDown Women's Champion Liv Morgan won a three-way over Natalya and Ronda Rousey by pinning Natalya
Madcap Moss b Humberto
Unified Tag Team Champions Usos won three-way over Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods and Sheamus & Butch
Roman Reigns b Drew McIntyre in a 26:55 main event to keep the Undisputed title. Reigns then cut a promo, noted that there were more than 7,000 fans (the only crowd for a house show larger was 3/5 in MSG for that show that was heavily pushed on TV with Reigns and Brock Lesnar both defending the title). It was a total babyface promo. He mentioned taking a lighter schedule after ten years on the road. This was his first house show in several weeks.
7.WWE in Bossier City, LA, last night (thanks to Sonny Hammoud and Georgio Arcade)
Theory b Dolph Ziggler
Veer b R-Truth
Carmella b Doudrop
Carmella b Dana Brooke to win the 24/7 title
Dana Brooke b Carmella to win the 24/7 title
Ezekiel b Ciampa
Asuka b Becky Lynch
Omos b Cedric Alexander
Finn Balor b Dominik Mysterio
Riddle b Seth Rollins
A.J. Styles, Damian Priest, Street Profits,Kevin Owens, Liv Morgan, Bobby Lashley and Bianca Belair were advertised and not there. Owens is injured and Morgan worked the SmackDown show as she's switched brands now that she's champion.
