JOSEPH CURRIER
WWE:
My Hell in a Cell preview and predictions column is now up at Sports Illustrated.
On the latest episode of WWE After the Bell, Bianca Belair opened up about struggling with impostor syndrome:
So I deal with impostor syndrome. I just recently learned the term for it. I had these feelings of everybody saying I’m good, and I’m accomplishing all of these things, but I still feel like I’m learning and I’m always questioning myself.
Even before WrestleMania this year, I thought, ‘Oh, I main evented WrestleMania last year. I’m not going to be nervous.’ I was more nervous at WrestleMania against Becky Lynch than I was the year before because I’m always dealing with impostor syndrome. I never knew the word for it until recently when I started reading about my feelings. They say top elite athletes, actors, and people in our profession all deal with impostor syndrome. So, all the time, I’m trying to prove like, ‘No, I know what I’m doing. I know what I’m doing.’ I’m always telling myself, ‘Get rid of that impostor syndrome’, and you just have to be confident.
Belair also told Sports Illustrated about the respect she has for Becky Lynch:
My respect for Becky Lynch grew at WrestleMania, but my respect grew even more during the process and the journey to get there. I really hadn’t even met Becky until SummerSlam. Seeing the way she advocates and fights for women’s wrestling is inspiring. She makes sure women’s matches are highlighted on shows. She makes sure that the women are represented.
I learned a lot about Becky over the past few months. She doesn’t only advocate for herself; she also advocates for the women she’s in the ring with and the women she’s in the locker room with. I can’t wait to pay my respect forward.
In a Q&A for WWE, John Cena named Theory as his favorite current WWE wrestler. He also said Theory is the current WWE wrestler who is most in need of an Attitude Adjustment.
Theory responded to Cena on Twitter: “Stop playing dress up and do something then @johncena”
On last night’s SmackDown, Drew McIntyre gave a shout out to Big E at home and asked the crowd to cheer for Big E as he recovers from his broken neck. Big E sent out a tweet last night thanking everyone: “I wish I had something more clever to say. Just…thank you all.”
Sanga defeated Wes Lee in a dark match before SmackDown last night.
Jim Varsallone has an interview with Bron Breakker.
MVP released a diss track on Bobby Lashley ahead of Hell in a Cell.
Madcap Moss, Jinder Mahal & Shanky, and Natalya appeared on Talking Smack this week.
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded John Cena vs. The Great Khali vs. Umaga for the WWE Championship from the June 4, 2007 episode of Raw, Rhea Ripley vs. Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship from Hell in a Cell 2021, and The New Day vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn from the June 4, 2019 episode of SmackDown.
OTHER WRESTLING:
Tony Khan offered an explanation for why Jon Moxley is ranked as the number one contender to the AEW World Championship: “@jonmoxley is the only AEW wrestler with 7+ 2022 singles bouts undefeated on TV (Dynamite/Rampage/Battle of the Belts) + PPV (Revolution/Double or Nothing). (7-0. Moxley + @anthonyogogo only undefeated 7-0 records in AEW in 2022, Moxley ranked higher based on opponents quality.)”
Khan also explained why Moxley jumped ahead of Wardlow in the rankings: “While he’s been undefeated all year, Mox recently was in tag matches more & inactive in singles since his iconic match in Boston vs @wheeleryuta until this week, & then he returned to singles & won this week’s #AEWDynamite main event to go to 7-0, pushing him back to the top spot”
Thunder Rosa is auctioning off her Double or Nothing gear to benefit the families of the victims of the Uvalde mass shooting.
Arn Anderson announced that he now owns the 4 Horsemen trademark.
Nick Wayne will debut for PROGRESS Wrestling at their show in London on Sunday, July 24.
Konosuke Takeshita is set to make his PROGRESS debut this August. He’ll be in action at PROGRESS’ shows on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday, August 14.
Ross Von Erich is the latest entrant to be announced for MLW Battle Riot IV.
